IS THE NET A DISC? CTAP EXPOSES
Every day, several hundred thousand new malware programmes are discovered and corporate IT infrastructures and operational technologies are attacked, sometimes with serious and often devastating consequences. Cybercrime is developing dynamically and has long been part of modern warfare. But instead of another article about these powerful threats, we need a plan to adapt our lives to these dangers. We need solutions, new habits, new processes, with new standards. We need a security-enabled everyday life.
Current examples, such as the attacks on the IHK, Caritas, the brand Hipp and Toyota, are not only in disarray in Germany. The whole of Europe needs a stronger cyber defence than ever. This is because the manufacturing industry is also increasingly under attack, with entire production facilities being paralysed and entire supply chains interrupted. There is talk of possible blackouts in the news and, thanks to the mysterious leaks in the Baltic Sea pipelines, it is clear that underwater energy and data lines are also potential targets in the hybrid war for influence and markets.
Now the biggest and most important question is: what to do? Is there still a way to protect ourselves from the current threat situation? Do we still have time to implement preventative measures in companies, create regular backups and organise employee training on security awareness - or is it really too late?
Good questions. After all, your own IT security largely depends on your awareness of your own risk factors and vulnerabilities. If we are aware of vulnerabilities, we can identify, assess, prioritise, control, reduce and monitor them. We can see them, assess them - and close them.
For example, if I have a broken window pane in my home, then I am most likely aware of the various risks that I am taking with this vulnerability: Risk of injury, cold air moving through the home, burglars can easily get into the house, my neighbours might think I'm a slob - and the cat can quickly run away. Then I have to think about what solutions I can come up with. Can I repair the glass myself? Or nail a wooden board in front of it? Or just leave it as it is? And call the police or my landlady? And put the cat on a lead? Then I have to think about how to evaluate these solutions: how much money will the repair cost? How much effort will it be to involve the police or my landlady? How long will it be before I no longer have a broken windscreen? What impact could the solution have on me, my flat or my cat? Has my reputation with the neighbours actually been ruined now? And then I have to ask myself: How can I prevent this risk in the future?
In my experience, what applies to my own four walls is no different in IT. In fact, the consequences are far worse here and this increases the sense of unease among those responsible.
Ok, ok. Admittedly, a broken window pane is hard to miss, the risks are obvious and no rocket science needs to be applied to determine the various solutions. This makes it all the more important to ask yourself the question at this point: How can I make the weak points of my network visible?
Less reaction, more action.
So it should definitely be part of our new everyday life to constantly and actively search for our own weak points - just like hackers do. So: How do I find my vulnerabilities? How do I recognise a broken window in the depths of my IT infrastructure?
For example, with a framework that can give you an insight into your IT security situation and help you to better understand your own security risk.
Because your network is made up of complex interactions between applications, users and content that are vulnerable to sophisticated threats such as botnets and advanced malware. Managing the complexity and blocking the threats requires greater visibility and performance than traditional network firewalls offer. This is where active threat analytics such as CTAP come into play.
CTAP - Making threats visible.
The Cyber Threat Assessment Program, for example, provides your organisation with insight into your network's security and threat prevention, user productivity and network usage without disrupting your existing network or impacting performance. It identifies what vulnerabilities the network has in terms of attacks, what malware may be in your environment, what phishing attacks make it through the existing security measures - and what devices on your network are at risk.
A good start to a new everyday life with new habits and new standards. Because knowing your vulnerabilities can save you money and time by identifying problems before they occur.
According to this, every company should optimise its security situation. However, the problem is that, for various reasons (budget, manpower, etc.), most companies prefer to hesitate rather than act. That's why we at suresecure make sure that CTAP is completely free and straightforward for our partners.
To summarise, we use CTAP to deliver concrete results within a few days with regard to the security solution used to date and get to the bottom of the following questions:
Which threats and attacks are overlooked by the current firewall and which end devices are at risk?
Which websites and web applications are used and how do users behave?
How is bandwidth usage organised and how can it be optimised?
What threat does this pose?
CTAP is of course just one of many ways to shed light on the darkness and bring some security to the great uncertainty - but in any case, it is the fastest, most uncomplicated and most cost-effective solution to gain a short-term insight into your own threat situation and thus offers a first, quick step into a new everyday life in which we know all about our networks, can act accordingly and protect them.
Because nobody has the right to exploit the predetermined breaking points of your window pane, neither today nor in the future!
